unforgettable holiday experience
Kusu Island Resort
After 4 years of exploring locations around the world, we discovered the perfect spot – Kusu Island in South Halmahera, Indonesia. In this private tropical paradise, we have created the most exciting and exclusive dive and holiday resort.
This region has just recently been discovered for tourism. The reefs surrounding Kusu Island are virtually untouched and bristling with marine life. Only a few fortunate divers have been able to enjoy this pristine underwater jewel yet.
On our tranquil secluded island we will provide our guests with an amazing and unforgettable holiday experience through excellent service, world class diving and much more.
Ecological Consideration
Sustainability
To reduce the impact on the islands vegetation, all Ocean Villas and the restaurant are built partly over the ocean. The buildings are placed so that no rainforest trees had to be removed. Most of the building materials needed for
construction were sourced from the region, this avoided long transport routes and promotes the local economy.
As main building material, ironwood (a tropical hardwood) was used which features a very long life time. Special care has been taken in obtaining the wood. If possible, driftwood or reclaimed wood was used. All Ocean Villas, the
restaurant and the dive equipment storage have been built with a roof made of palm leaves and are 100% biodegradable. Furthermore, nearly all buildings are constructed semi-permanent.
To protect our reef from damage, our two jetties are built out of wood, which in contrast to other building materials can be subsequently removed without remains.
Locally sourced palm leaved roofs are used on our Ocean Villas, restaurant and equipment storage. The roofs were bound using natural fibres and when replaced will not cause any environmental pollution. Some supply buildings will have gutters attached to collect rainwater in underground storage tanks. This reduces the amount of water that has to be treated.
Electricity will be provided from 6am to 24pm. We do consider our animals living in the forest and they also need their sleep and no light and sound pollution.
